I believe that you are asking how you can have state grant as an Independent student. Every year, I am asked same question by my students. To be eligibe for state grant, you have to an independent student for FAFSA. If you are not born before January, 1989 and single having no dependent to support, you are a dependent student. If you want to try dependency override (claim youself as independent) for FAFSA, you have to prove that you fully support yourself. One of poofs for dependency override is your annual income. I am working at college in New York. Student has to prove that he or she made at east $15000 annual income. For more detail, I recommend that you contact with financial aid counselor in your school.
