First, upon arrest for DUI, the police takes away your license and gives you a temporary pink driver's license paper which is good for 30 days only. Therefore, you have to apply for a DMV hearing within 10 days from the date of your arrest in order to driver longer than 30 days and to fight possible regain your driver's license.
As for court appearance, it is a separate matter which you need to appear in court. Depending on your BAC level (alcohol reading), your sentence will vary greatly.
If you are unsure it is probably best to hire an attorney. An attorney can do the DMV hearing and go to court for you and you don't have to go to DMV or to court.
