First, it is always best to hire an attorney to represent your interest if you can afford to do so.
As for your son, depending on whether he is 18yrs old or not, he will have to go to juvenile court or to regular adult court for assault. If he is under 18, a parent must go to court with him.
As far as the case, throwing an egg is an assault. However, because it was not an attack in the real sense, chances are the charge can be dropped to an infraction so that your son will have no criminal record.
