for important parcel, do not use USPS. There are some thieves in the system and they know what they steal. investigation sometimes reveals nothing but frustration. they say just they can not do anything.
Use UPS. they give you a tracking number so you can find exact location of your parcel to your children. for most parcels you do not need insurance.
