Hi, if you were driving outside of California and your driver's license expired, you have to reapply the license, or just go to DMV and let them know that you had a none California license and you can not remember that states driver license's number so you have to apply a new one in California and make sure that your new California driver's license is associating with other states's driver's license. You can driver in California with other states or countries driver's license if you don't live in California, not voting here, file tax here's or getting a benefit in California. However, you want to driver with California license and at the same time you have other states license and which is not connected with California, it is like that you have two driver's licenses; one is expired. If you get caught, you might be in trouble and may get arrested. I know many police officers did that. So, go to California DMV and let them know that you have other states driver's license and you want a California license because you now live here. Tell DMV that Your license in other states was expired because you were in other country and forgot to renew it. If they don't understand, ask to talk to a supervisor and make sure to get their names. You are required to take an examination.
