Q. Dental Payment Dispute With An Endodontist

Hello,

How are you?

I am a person who received endodontic treatment recently, in the state of New Jersey.
Some time ago, I went to see an endodontist, to receive root canal treatment for my two teeth.
Before visiting, they confirmed to me that they offer divided monthly payments, and that (since I have an insurance) after the treatment, they will first send the bill to the insurance, and then bill me the remainder after they get a response from the insurance.
I accepted their offer of setting up divided monthly payments.

But after the treatment, it appears that the endodontist doctor changed his mind.
The insurance reduced the entire bill by only a little amount. Then, the endodontist office told me that they cannot accept divided monthly payments, despite what we agreed upon earlier; they told me to pay the entire bill right away.
The office and the receptionists were confused in their stance in regards to this situation.

For some days we continued this disagreement, where I stated my wish to pay monthly payments as per our original agreement, and the endodontist office making it difficult for me to talk with the proper billing personnel.
Finally, after several calls, they told me that they sent the entire bill to the collections.
This happened well over a week before the due date printed on the balance statement letter that they sent me during the middle of all this.

And few days ago, I received a letter from an attorney's office; it appears that the endodontist requested that attorney to send me a letter -- performing as some sort of debt collector -- a letter telling me to make the payment of the full amount payable directly to the name of the endodontist.
(Which seems odd to me; if the endodontist sent the bill to collections, as the office said they did, why should anyone make a payment payable to the name of that endodontist? Ought it not be made payable to the name of the collection?)

Is there by any chance any place where I could appeal this situation at?
My intention is to make divided monthly payments, as originally agreed upon.
I made that agreement with the endondontist office in the first place because I do not have the funds to make the total payment all at once.

Please help me in this situation.

Thank you,

Hello,

Thank you for the response!
If, for instance, I begin to make monthly payments without an agreement, what would happen if other problems arise in middle of my payments? This, I wish to say, is one of my main concerns...

Because, I requested this dentist multiple times, asking him to send me a statement with monthly payment terms in writing, and he refused to do so, even unto now.

I feel rather risky, sending him monthly payments, without anything in writing.

It seems you don't have a written contract. The smaller the amount, the more difficult it is to reach an new agreement with a lawyer's office.

Save time and follow their arguments ( request monthly payment)

If you have proof of the original contract, try filing it with a lawyer's office. Receipt, voice, text, etc.
