Q. which way is the best way to do?

I have worked in a chemistry research group at university of new orleans as a posdoctral position with OPT after PhD from May, 2007. In some reason, I did apply for the visa status change from OPT(F-1), which was expired on Jan. 8th 2008, to J-1 on Oct. 26th. when I made a call to CIS to know my visa status, I was told that it will be out on end of Feb. and I can't work further, consequently I don't have a salary to live and work, the working contract is supposed end on end of April.
In this case, which way is better choice? the workers in international office in this school said I need to be out of USA with DS2093?, which is based on new contract for another year from March to Feb. 2009, and other necessary documents for another application for entrance visa after canceling the application here, and comming back with new visa.
Do I need to do do that?

now, They said we had better do hear something from the Humane resource center in this school further process on this Monday, so I am waiting for it.
