The answer to your question is not that simple. You may or may not use portion's of the original franchisor's name. In your example, you could probably use it, however, you couldn't say use, John's Taco Bell, if you had a Taco Bell franchise. Be very careful! I would recommend not using any similar name as it only invites the franchisor to sue you.
