I have h1b visa working at the american company.
in this recession, they cut down all the employees salary.

my friend company cut down the employees salary too.
few days later, my friend got a letter from hr saying that they can't cut the salary down to my friend who has a h-1b visa.

I don't want to violate the law.
can you tell me is this true and want to know does this apply to everyone who has a working visa (h1b)

Basically prevailing wages are set to protect US labor. It is a promise between US gov't and the company sponsoring aliens not to adversly affect US labor market.

As agreed, you may be able to seek the compensation afterwards for the amount cut down at the end. However, be wise. In this economy, the company will be willing to layoff any employees and any alien employees like your friend will be the number one in line.

If you are going to be laid off soon, take actions accordingly to pursue your legal rights as a matter of law.
