I am a US citizen. I have some questions regarding my mom and dad's invitation to the US.

1. If I invite them, do they get US citizenships without first getting the permanent resident status?

2. Somebody said it will take about 8 months. Is it the average time it takes for the completion of the processing? Is it very predictable or there are some variations in the processing time?

3. How much does it cost to do the processing?

4. I guess Mom and Dad have to have an interview in the US, right?
Do they have to speak some English? I guess it would help but
is not required.

5. If you invite them, it is quite certain that they will get the citizenship if there is no major problem?

1. Alien parents shall first become a Permanent Resident and then meet different requirements to apply for citizenship later.

2. 8 months, yes if they are taking interview abroad. 4-5 months if they are already in the U.S. and applying here. It depends on how quick you are in responding to the government's request for documents.

3. You have to file separate petition for each of Mom and Dad. Expenses wil be around $1500 (attorney's fees are not included) per person.

4. You can bring unrelated translater at a Green Card interview.

5. Citizenship is 5 years to go after becoming a Permanent Resident.
