If you are in California, you must file a petition with the court to change your children's names. The cost and fee are not cheap. Just the filing fee to the court for each person is about $400. Then there are costs for advertisment on a newpaper (required) and a search (required). The total cost could be about $700. Plus attorney fees are about $1,000 to $2,000.
