원글을 올리신 분이 혹시라도 Class C 운전면허로 교회 밴을 운전하시다가 사고가 발생하였을 경우에 보험회사에서 보상을 해 주지 않을 경우에, 본인은 봉사한다는 순수한 마음으로 시간을 내어서 픽업하는 일을 하였지만, 결과는 교회와 본인에게 치명적인 심각한 문제를 발생시킬 수가 있기에 이 글을 올립니다.

DMV 홈페이지의 표현으로는 nonprofit organization이라고 되어 있는데, 교회가 바로 nonprofit organization입니다.
DMV 홈페이지 커머셜 드라이브 핸드북에 nonprofit organization 즉 교회 밴 10인 이상의 차를 운전할 경우에는 Class B를 가지고 해야 된다고 나와 있습니다.


아래의 글들이 아니라도 Class C를 가지고 교회 12인승이나 15인승 밴을 운전할 수 있는지 알아보는 간단한 방법이 있습니다.
그것은 CHP에게 물어 보시면 알 수 있습니다. 교통 경찰에게 Class C를 가지고 교회 밴을 운전해도 되는지 물어보시면 됩니다.

Who Needs a CDL?
To operate commercial vehicles, you must apply for a CDL. Only California residents may obtain a California CDL. Residency is established by any of the following: registering to vote here, paying resident tuition at a public institution of higher education, filing for a California homeowner’s property tax exemption, obtaining a license (such as a fishing license), or any other privilege or benefit not ordinarily extended to nonresidents. You need a CDL if you operate a vehicle or combination of vehicles which requires a Class A or Class B license or Class C license with endorsements.

A commercial motor vehicle is a motor vehicle or combination of vehicles designed or used for either the transportation of persons for compensation or property and:

•Has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more.
•Tows any vehicle with a GVWR of 10,001 pounds or more.
•Tows more than one vehicle or a trailer bus.
•Has three or more axles (excludes three axle vehicles weighing 6,000 pounds or less gross).
•Is any vehicle (bus, farm labor vehicle, general public paratransit vehicle, etc.) designed, used, or maintained to carry more than 10 passengers including the driver, for hire or profit, or is used by any nonprofit organization or group.
•Transports hazardous materials requiring placarding.*
•Transports hazardous wastes (Health and Safety Code §§25115 and 25117)


Bus Definition
6.2
Vehicle Code §233, defines a vehicle as a bus when it is designed, used, or maintained for carrying more than 15 passengers, including the driver.
Vehicles designed, used, or maintained for carrying more than 10 passengers, including the driver, which are used to transport persons for compensation or profit (for hire), or used by any nonprofit organization or group are also buses.
Operating a bus or van under the above definition requires the driver to obtain a passenger endorsement.
NOTE: Mechanics who service and test drive these buses must have a passenger endorsement.
Restrictions
6.3
Specific restrictions will be placed on a commercial Class B driver license when the drive test vehicle does not meet federal minimum standards pertaining to the size and weight of the vehicle, and how many passengers it is designed to carry.
The following restriction boxes will be marked on the Certificate of Driving Skill, so the restriction will be added to the driver license, when the vehicle design or condition exists.
