1098-T is from school for education credit in income tax return. I have been asked many times from my students about that question in FAFSA. Federal Grant (PELL), State Grant, Institutional Grant, and Institutional scholarships what you received are not Grant or Scholarship reported to IRS. If you received any outside Grant or scholarship being considered as income and reported to IRS when income tax return is filed, you need to indicate how much it was in FAFSA. In your child’s case, he or she does not put anything on that question in FAFSA.
1099 form is not being normally used any Grant or Scholarship being reported to IRS. You do not say what kind award it was in 1099 form. Any Grant or Scholarship being reported as income in your income tax return needs to be indicated how much it was in FASFA. Please, read this to understand. This is from IRS website.
Scholarships. Do not use Form 1099-MISC to report scholarship or fellowship grants. Scholarship or fellowship grants are taxable to the recipient because they are paid for teaching, research, or other services as a condition for receiving the grant are considered wages and must be reported on Form W-2. Other taxable scholarship or fellowship payments (to a degree or nondegree candidate) do not have to be reported by you to the IRS on any form.
Normally you get mailed W-2 form for any Grant or Scholarship being reported to IRS because it is taxable.

1099-Misc is being used for income other than wages, slaryies, or tips. 1099-Misc can be used for any prize or award more than $600. If that award was or will be used for education, your child can indicate it in FAFSA.

It depends how much 2011 earned income your child made. Financial aid is normally determined by student's/parents' income tax returns, assets, number in family, and number in college. Federal government considers 30% from student' information and 70% from parents' information.

Grant and scholarship aid reported to the IRS
